America’s First Wine Trail
Some are surprised to learn that the first American Viticultural Area (AVA) was awarded to Augusta, Missouri. The area has been regarded for its unique soil, climate and long tradition of local wine varietals. While regions of in California and Oregon had filed applications, the first honor went to the 15-square mile area near the town of Augusta on June 20, 1980.
To find out why Augusta was the first AVA, start your journey on the Missouri Weinstrasse. Between our three wineries – Augusta, Balducci and Montelle – there are over 100 selections of Missouri wine to experience.
